How Worrying Can Affect Your Waistline

The end of the year is stressful for many of us.  People are susceptible to adding on the pounds if they are faced with too many stressful situations.  Worrying about things causes out internal systems to do things to protect us.  This leads to the release of various hormones.

Although the holidays can cause a person to face more stressful situation the release of hormones happens all of the time as a result of it.  Our bodies can go into a survival mode when they are faced with things like stress.  These reactions occur in many different ways and are designed to help a person get through the situation they are being faced with.

It is not always healthy for a person to be constantly presented with stressful situations.  One of the most obvious reactions that people have to stress is a growing waistline.  Add the temptations that surround us during the holidays to the stress and a person has the perfect combination for packing on the extra pounds and will soon find themselves trying to find a way how to lose weight fast- once the holidays are over and a person has looked in the mirror.  This is caused by a variety of reasons.

Your ability to burn calories changes.  Many people feel like they put on more weight when they are stressed.  Even if a person is following the same diet, they might be experiencing the weight gain.  A person uses less energy because the body is trying to protect itself.  It is very hard to maintain you weight if your metabolism is slowed.  This also makes dieting more difficult.

We desire certain types of foods.  People get stressed.  Do you reach for a nice salad or a dish of ice cream?  Many choose the latter.  People experiencing chronic stress tend to crave more fatty, salty and sugary foods.  Food that is easy to eat or just tasted really good are common support systems.  These foods are typically less healthy and lead to increased weight gain.

You glucose levels fluctuate more.  Glucose levels in you body are much harder to control when faced with constant stressful situations.  There are many known issues that a person can face when they worry continually.  Constant stress causes much more than a bulging waistline.

Food is stored in our bodies differently  Many people who worry a lot are likely to have larger stomachs.  It is not fun to look in the mirror at a big stomach.  A person will face other health obstacles if this part of the body has more fat than it should.

We deal with stress around the holidays in several ways.

 

A person will eat to feel better.  We not only crave unhealthy food, but excess nervous energy can often cause you to eat more than you normally would.  Think about how you have reacted to stress, and what types of foods that you normally turn to when you are under that stress even though you know you should not do it.

We turn to fast food.  Our schedules are completely booked.  A person turns to the convenience that is offered by the take out restaurant.  The food that they get is high in fat and calories.  It is believed to be one of the major reasons for many peoples weight gain.

Regular physical activity is put off until later. With all the demands on your schedule, exercise may be one of the last things on your to do list and the commercials that promise a way for us to learn lose weight fast seems like just the thing that will solve our weight issues, but the reality is that it is only a temporary solution and the only way to get to a healthy weight and stay there is through a proper diet and exercise program.

The Christmas season is not an excuse for people to accept the weight they gain.  Take the steps to control it.  It could mean one less New Year’s resolution to make.
